Etymology

Kersoe stands on a well-marked hoh or spur of land. The first element would seem to be the otherwise unknown pers. name Criddi which it is difficult to dissociate from the name Crioda found in the early Mercian genealogies, which apparently appears as Crida in the ASC s.a. 593. Cf. also creodanac (BCS 455) in Cofton (Wo).
