Etymology

'Gedda 's marshy land,' v. fen . For such early loss of initial g cf. DBEvestie for OE Geofanstige (BCS 1074). This pers. name is also found in Yeading (Mx). Only the strong form Geddi is on independent record. John de Loges had a holding here in 1211 (RBE).
