Normanton is Normanton 1332SR et passim , Normanton alias Normington 1635Recov . The forms are too late to do much with.It may be that this is a late tun -formation from some 12th- or 13th-century owner Norman or Northman . The name cannot be of the same origin as the Danelaw Normantons which are Norse settlements as distinct from Danish, cf. Mawer, PN and History 20–1.
