Etymology

The w in the first form must be due to some earlier document in which the OE  thorn and wen symbols were confused.

It may be noted that the site of Nythe must be just by tha Ealdanig Dic of the Wanborough Charter (BCS 479) where the simplex ig seems to be used of this land.
