Etymology

Wedhampton [wediŋtən] is Wedhampton 1249Ass et freq , Wedehampton 1274, Weydhampton 1289Ass , Woedhampton 1341Cor , Wedehamton 1547SR , Weddington 1773 A and D. A compound of OE  wēod , 'weed,' and hamtun , with reference to a weed-grown farm. Wedehamford (1570 PembSurv) in Patney must have been close by.
