Etymology

Scot's Poor is Scott Poor 1773 A and D, Scots Poor 1812 RCH.It is by the stæt (sic) geat of the Great Bedwyn charter (BCS 1213), a name which Crawford notes as surviving in the Street Gate of an Estate map of 1825. Further record of it is found in streteyate (1259 FF) in Tidcombe and Streetgate Down in the Collingbourne Kingston Tithe Award. It lies on the old Roman road commonly known as Chute Causeway.
