Etymology

Hareston Down (6″) probably takes its name from the gemerstan or maerstan in the boundaries of Stanton St Bernard (BCS 600, 998, 1053). v. (ge)mære. Hareston may stand for the more usual Hoarstone from OE  hārstān , 'boundary-stone.'
