Etymology

v. stan , tun . Possibly stan refers to the large standing stone here (WM xlii, 50) and the name is to be interpreted as 'farm by the stone' rather than as 'stone farm-enclosure' (E. H. G.).Fulco filius Warini held the manor in 1196 (Cur).
