Etymology

This is another of the Winterbourne manors. Cf. Till R. supra 10. The later name means 'sheriff's farm,' v. tun . Edward of Salisbury, Sheriff of Wiltshire, held Wintreburne (TRW). Cf. Shurton in Stogursey (So), Sherrweton 1227 SRS xxxvii, Shurreveton 1279 ib.
