Etymology

This corresponds to the manor of Sherston held by Ralph de Pinkenny in 1201 (Cur), spelt Pinkenye , Pinkene (1268Ass ). For the family name cf. Moreton Pinkney (PN Nth 41). For the later dropping of the first part of the compound, cf. Kellaways supra 99.
