Etymology

Probably from OE  Beoccesgeat , '(forest)-gate of Beocc .' Professor Ekwall notes Beoccesheal (BCS 1213) in the bounds of Redwyn two miles to the west, named probably from the same man. Beocca is on record from Wilts.
