Hungerdown is campo qui vocatur Hungerdowne super Shitarshulle c. 1350Bradenstoke , Hungerdowne mead 1658FF . The name describes poor soil or pasture. Cf. infra 93. It has supplanted the earlier and cruder name of the hill.
