Etymology

Names with rust as a first element are found elsewhere. We may note RusteuuelUe (BCS 260), now Rusthall (KPN 75–6), Rustington (PN Sx 172) and a lost Kentish rustingdenn (BCS 459). The first named may contain the common word rust , 'rust,' but the others more probably contain a personal name identical with it. OGer  names Rust and Rusto are on record (Förstemann, PN 1286). Hence 'Rust 's nook of land,' v. healh .
