The stream here is referred to as (on ) hreodburnan in 943 (12th) BCS 788, 962 (12th) ib. 1093, i.e. 'reed stream,' v. burna .Cf. Rodbourne in Malmesbury infra 51 and Redbourn (PN Herts 78). Ralph le Chanu held the manor in 1242 (Fees).
