Etymology

Clattingar is Clothangare 1332SR (p), Cladhangre 1337 Ipm, Clodhangere , Cladhangur ', Clathangere 1347Ct , Clathanger 1420MinAcct , boscus voc. Clattanger 1488DuLa , Clatangre 1568 ib.The name would seem to be a compound of OE  clāte and hangra, 'slope.' Cf. Cloatley supra 59. Close by is a field called Clodd (TA ), which may account for the variant d -forms.
