Etymology

Hilcott is Hulcot (e )1196 Cur, 1198 Abbr, 1289Ass et passim to 1639Sadler , Hulkot '1242 Fees, Hulecot (e )1236 Cl, 1241 FF, 1268, 1289Ass , 1327 Banco, Hullecot (e )1249Ass , Hilcote 1522SR , 1526Ct , Hilcott al. Hulcott 1668Recov . The name would seem to be identical with Hulcote (PN Nth 98), the first element being the OE  hulu , 'shed, hovel.' The name may have been given to some very small dwelling or else to a place of shelter.
