Etymology

There can be little doubt that we have here, in the first part of the name, a repetition of the name Pimperne found in Dorset as the name of a village (PN Do 56–7) and probably going back to an old river-name (cf. Ekwall RN 326, DEPN s. n .). There is a small stream here.
