Etymology

Knowl is cnol 956 (14th) BCS 956, Cuffes cnoll 948 (14th) ib. 870, in the bounds of West Knoyle. As Grundy notes (ii, 20–1), the knoll is the hill three-quarters of a mile to the north-east, marked by the 400 ft. contour line, v. cnoll .
