Etymology

Kate's Bench Clump. Cf. Cattenbenche 1385, 1531, Gatebenche 14th Hoare, Gadebenche 1402 HMC, App. vii, Cattebenche 1535 VE, 1536MinAcct , Cattesbenche t. Hy 8 ib. For bench , denoting 'a slope,' cf. bencinfra 423. The whole name probably means '(Wild) cats' slope.'
