Hook and Hook Street are la Hok (e )1238 Cl, 1257For , 1268Ass , 1275 RH, Houke juxta Lydeyerd 1327, Hoke juxta Lydeyerd Treygos 1345Ass , v. hoc . Hook is on a well-marked spur of land, hook in Wiltshire dialect also denotes 'corner taken into cultivation,' cf. supra 134. Hook Street is a hamlet on a road leading to Hook, cf. supra 254.
