Crockerton is Crokerton 1249, 1305Ass , 1257For , 1351FF , Crockerton 1369 WM xxxvii, Crokkerton 1430FF , Crokeriston 1289Ass .This is probably a late tun-name. There was a John le Crocker in the parish in 1268 (Ass ) and a Stephen le Crokker in 1289 (ib.).The place takes its name from an earlier member of their family or from potters generally, cf. Potterton (PN WRY 150).Close by is Potter's Hill infra 167 and there are still Brick and Tile works.
