Etymology

The DB form may be from earlier Eardulfescote , 'the cottage(s) of Eard (w )ulf ,' or may contain a shortened form of that name, hence 'Eard 's cottages.' Cf. Ardsley (PN WRY 10) and Ardley (PN O 40).
