Ed 2For , Burwouda , Burewuda 1195 P, Burewode 1257For , Boroods heathe par .Little Bedwene 1604, Burwoods Heath 1660 PCC, Birds Heath 1812 RCH, Birge Heath 1820 G. 'Wood by the burh or camp,' cf. Burwood (PN Sr 96), though it is not clear to what camp reference is made. The sound [dz] has been confused with [dʒ] and then spelled dge .
