Etymology

In BCS 754 the stream here is referred to in the phrases (on ), (anlang ) lyden and in BCS 479 in (andlang ) Hlydan , (innan ) hlydan æwylmas . This is from OE  hlȳde , 'loud one,' found elsewhere in England as a stream-name. Cf. RN 272–3 and Lid Brook supra 8. Hence 'farm on the Hlȳde ,' v. tun .
