Etymology

Most names in worth are compounded with a personal name and we are probably right here in assuming a lost OE  name Mumma , perhaps a pet form of an OE  name in Mund - or -mund . Hence'Mumma 's enclosure,' v. worþ . Professor Bruce Dickins notes Modlcelandic Mummi for Guðmundur .
