Etymology

This name must be taken with Ymmanedene found in the land boundaries of BCS 1215, and a lost name in the parish, Imendone 1161 RBE, Himmedon 1170 ff. P, Hummendon 1177, Himmendon 1178, 1182, 1186, Hunmendon 1187 P, Immeden '1198 Fees, Himendun '1202 P, Imedone 1212–16 RBE, Humedon 13th Fees, Immedon 1281Ass . The first element of these names is almost certainly the OE  personal name Imma . The y -spelling in BCS 1215 comes from a 15th-century copy. Hence 'Imma 's pool and hill,' v. dun , mere .
