Etymology

The same first element occurs in hulpryngmor 964 (late) BCS 1127 in the bounds of Steeple Ashton just near. Ekwall (DEPN) is probably right in taking this as from a personal name Hylpric , a side-form of Helpric which is on record. Hence 'Hylpric 's farm,' v. ingtun .
