Etymology

Eastrop and Westrop appear as Esthropp in Worthe t. Hy 3 BM, Estrop 1268Ass , Est (t )horp 1318FF , 1336 Pat, Estthrop 1332SR , Estthrop by Heghworth 1335 Misc, Westrop 1249, 1268Ass , West Thorp juxta Heyworth 1302 ib., Westthorp 1318FF , 1327 Pat, Westthrop 1332SR , Westropp 1468 AD i. 'East and west hamlets,' v. þorp . Eastrop is just east of Highworth, but Westrop is due north and must have been named because west of Eastrop.
