Historical Forms

  • Crouch Hills 1773 AandD
  • Croucheslond 1452 Fry

Etymology

Crouch Hill and Little Crouch Hill (6″) are Crouch Hills 1773 A and D. We have no early forms for these hill-names though we may have reference to them in Croucheslond (1452 Fry) in Hannington, which borders on Highworth at this point. They probably go back to British cruc , 'hill, barrow.' They are well-marked rounded hills.
