Etymology

The Splatts is le Splotte 1526Ct , The Splatt 1696 NQ ii, Splats 1773 A and D. This is OE  splot , 'small patch of land,' discussed in PN D 137 and infra 446. Cf. Splot (Glam), the Splott 1393 NCPNW 161, la Splotte 1249FF (in Long Sutton, Ha) and Splotlond 1351 Many down (in Hannington, Ha).
