Stokke Ho is Stocke 1229 StOsmund, villa de Stok 1235 SarumCh, Stokke 1252 FF, 1313 Ipm, 1332SR , Stoke 1281Ass , Stoke juxta Bedewen 1485 IpmR. Probably OE  stocc, 'stock, stump.'There is a 13th-century effigy of Adam de Stokke in Great Bedwyn church (E. H. G.).
