Etymology

The stream here is called Forsca burna in 778 (BCS 225), i.e. 'frogs' stream,' v. forsc . If the form Forscanfeld is to be stressed, Ekwall (DEPN s. n .) is perhaps correct in taking the first element to be the gen. sg. of OE  forsce , a stream-name denoting one that is frequented by frogs, rather than an error for forsca-feld , 'frogs' open space.' Cf. Frogmead (TA ) in the parish and Introd. xxi.
