Etymology

Touching Head Copse (6″) is Touching Head Coppice c. 1840TA . Possibly as in Touchen End (Berks), la Twychene 1351 Ipm, we have reference to cross-roads (OE  twicen (e )). Cf. also Titching in Jacobstow (Co), Twychene c. 1150 Launceston Cartulary . There are cross-roads close at hand and not very far away was ðere twichene in the bounds of Tisbury (KCD 641).
