Etymology

Falstone Pond [vɔlstən] (6″) is Falestone t. Hy 3 Ipm, Faleston 1259For , Falstane t. Ed 3 ib., Ballstone Pond 1773 A and D. This was a forest boundary-mark, so the second element is no doubt stan , 'stone.' The first may be OE  fealu , 'yellowish, fallow.' Cf. Falstone (PN NbDu 80). Grundy (i, 219) suggests that this may be identical with Wylberhtes stan (BCS 635) in the bounds of Collingbourne Kingston.
