Etymology

v. dræg , cot(e) and Ekwall (Studies 46 ff.). There can be no question of any 'portage' or the like here, but there is a steep hill just to the north of the place which may have been called a dræg , Henry de Cerne held the manor in 1225 (Pat).The family probably came from Cerne (Do).
