Etymology

In the OE and in the 1228 Close Roll forms the reference is to a stream, viz. Brinkworth Brook supra 2–3, just to the north of the farm; in the other cases the reference is to the farm itself. For the history of the name Idover, cf. under Brinkworth Brook supra 2–3. The forms with initial t would seem to be due to fusion of final t in æt and the initial vowel in Idover.
