Widhill [olim widəl] is Widehille 1086 DB, Widehill (e )1205FF et freq to 1428 FA, with variant spellings Wydehill (e ) and Widehull (e ), Westwydehulle 13th AD ii, Wydihulle 13th AD vi, 1276FF , 1277Rental , Withihull '1245 WM xvi, Wythehull 1249Ass , Northwythihull 1305 ib., Withihill 1344 Cl, Widdle 1585 WM xxi, Widhill al. Widdell 1726Recov . Probably 'withy hill.' There is low ground by the river Ray just near the farm.
