Neston is Neston 1282, 1288Ass , 1332SR (all p), 1337 Pat, 1373 Trop, 1503 Ipm. It stands on an isolated hill which may perhaps be here described as a næss , 'ness, headland.' v. tun and cf. Neeston (NCPNW 62).
