Etymology

Eastrip is Asshetrop 1327 Banco, Asshethrop (e )1406, 1522NewColl , Eastrupp 1665 ib., Estropps 1712DuLa , Eastrop 1820 G. 'Ash-tree village or hamlet,' v. þorp . The later alteration may be in part due to folk-etymology, the place lying to the north-east of Colerne.
