Etymology

Draycot Foliat is Draicote 1197 FF, Draycot 1219 Abbr, Dreycot '1235 Fees, 1241 FF, Dreicote Foliot 13thBradenstoke , Dreykote Folyoht 1308 Ipm. v. Draycot supra 69–70. There can be no question of any portage here, but the place is below a hill near the top of the long valley running up from Ogbourne and this may have been called a draeg. Samson Foliot held the manor in 1219 (Abbr).
