Etymology

Cheverden Fm [tʃivədən] is Chiverden (e )t. Ed 1 RegMalm, 1304 Pat, 1305Ass , 1332SR (p), Chyverden t. Ed 1For . It is possible that the first element here is OE  cefer , 'beetle,' a form which is found side by side with the more common ceafor . Cf. NEDs. v. chafer sb. e is often thus raised to i before following v , though the change is not often evidenced as early as the 14th century.v. denu .
