Etymology
Derry Hill. Cf. Derrie Gate 1653Survey , Derry Hill 1695 BorRec. Note also The Derry in Ashton Keynes (supra 40), The Derry (1653) in Chippenham, Deryestreate (1568) in Marlborough. The word would seem to be a variant of the usual dairy . The form is found in Fuller in the 17th century (cf. NED). Derry Brook in Ashton Keynes (supra 6) is not by The Derry. It lies south of it on the other side of Swill Brook.
