Etymology

Danes Lye (6″) is Denelyghe , Deanelighe t. ElizLRMB . 'Valley clearing,' v. denu , leah . In spite of the proximity of Edington, this can have nothing to do with the Danes. The name has been altered to support a legend (Hoare 45).
