Etymology

'Blunt 's hill,' v. dun . Cf. Blundeston (Sf) in DEPN, Bluntesig (KCD 666) and Bluntesheth juxta Bromham (1293FF ) in this county. St Andrew from the dedication of the church. For Broad , i.e. 'great' or 'chief,' cf. infra 204. Churi - is no doubt for 'church,' i.e. Blunsdon St Andrew, cf. Cheriton (PN D 59).Little also refers to this place. Hanging and Blunsdon Gay are alternative names for Broad Blunsdon. Cf. Limpley Stoke infra 121. Walter le Gay held part of the manor in 1281 (Ass ).
