Etymology

Throope Fm (6″) and Hill [truˑp] is Thrope 1289Ass , Throp 1327, Throup 1332SR , Throwpe 1570 PembSurv. v. þorp , 'village.' It is probably identical with Ebblesburnthorpe (1289 Abbr), 'the hamlet dependent on Ebbesborne.'
