Etymology

Winkelbury Camp. Cf. Winterburge geat 955 (13th) BCS 917, Winkelbury Hill 1773 A and D. 'Camp or stronghold used in winter,' v. burh . In the first quotation we have reference to a gate of the camp (v. geat ).
