Etymology

Lune's Bridge, Lonesbrig 1379 Pat , Lunebridge 1673 Bridges 10, 1679 NWm 11, 1823 M, also described as pontem inter Tybay et Routhwayt 1380 TestKarl 143. 'Bridge over the Lune', v. brycg , and on the history of the bridge cf. NWm 204. It carried the road from Kendal to Appleby over the Lune (as well as the road from Tebay to Roundthwaite).
