Etymology

Sunbiggin, Sunnebyggyn (ge )1310 Whitby, Sunbiggin 1577 Harrison, 1615 NB 488, 1632FF et passim to 1777 M. Possibly 'sunny or south building', as it is high on the south slope of a ridge, from OE  sunne 'sun' or ON  sunn - 'south' as in Norw  Sundby (NG ii, 66).
