Etymology

The first el. is probably ON  nata 'nettle' or an ON  pers.n. Nate , cf. Natland (i, 112supra ), Nateby (La 164), v. 'farmstead'.Whatever the first el., it is no doubt to be found also in the lost Nategill (infra ).
