Etymology

The first el. is probably ON  heggr 'bird-cherry' or an ON  pers.n. Heggi corresponding to ODan  Heggi , OSwed  Hægge (DaPN s.n.) and a wk. form of ON  Heggr , v. holmr , cf. Hegdale (ii, 169infra ).
